FOR CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELING & TESTING CALL US AT 508-453-4884, 508-340-1669.
The Fairbridge Project International Incorporated (FPI Inc.) started through a group discussion on how Africans in USA can respond to the needs in sub-Sahara Africa. In the course of a wider consultation, we found that there are needs among us in the city of Worcester and throughout the USA. Chief among these needs were infant mortality, HIV/AIDS prevalence and restricted access to educational/economic opportunities among many others.
The issues were divided into three main areas:
Public health;
ESL and support services especially among refugee families;
Household poverty.
Several meetings later, we had a by-law, a board of directors and registration as a nonprofit entity.
In December 2005 FPI Inc. observed the World AIDS Day by sending out ribbons to families and individuals in African community with a short story to alert people on the the need to get tested for early detection and treatment of the HIV/AIDS. InFebruary 2006 FPI Inc. hosted her first event- Valentine Dance for adults to celebrate love and provide information to further HIV/AIDS prevention work. FPI Inc became a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit in 2006. We began to organize to reduce the effect of disparities in health, education and economic opportunities in African community.
To date through our collaborative work and direct outreach we have been able to reach about 2500 people. FPI Inc. has been able to do its work through the help of several volunteers who have worked very hard. A visit to our program section would give you an insight into what we currently offer our community. Please visit the contact us page to see a volunteer form and an opportunity to donate. Thank you. |
